Press release about signing the agreement with The Swiss Confederation
On 29th April, 2010 in Bern, Switzerland, an Agreement was signed between the Russian Federation government and Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation about protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin of goods.
On behalf of the Russian Federation government the Agreement is signed by the head of Federal Agency of intellectual property, patents and trade marks (Rospatent) Mr.P.Simonov, and on behalf of Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation the Agreement is signed by the general director of the Swiss federal institute of intellectual property Mr.R.Grossenbaher.
The agreement creates a basis for granting of an adequate and effective right protection both to the Russian geographical indications and appellations of origin of goods in the Swiss Confederation and to the Swiss geographical indications and appellations of origin of goods in the Russian Federation.
The agreement is based on the verified balance in interests of the parties and provides norms and principles concerning maintenance of guards and security protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin of goods. According to positions of the Agreement Russia and Switzerland mutually give effective protection to geographical indications and appellations of origin of goods taking into account the national legislation, and also according to the international contracts, which participants they are.
As the cognizance authorities, responsible for realization of this Agreement, are defined Federal Agency of intellectual property, patents and trade marks (Rospatent) and the Swiss federal institute of intellectual property.
